We discussed Times on the iPad in the most recent podcast. It looks awesome, and while I would never use it for a full-fledged “drinking from the firehose” newsreader, it looks like a fantastic app for keeping up with my top 10-20 news feeds. My primary complaint is that, while it has a great shelving feature for reading later, there’s no way to sync items to Instapaper. During the podcast, I mentioned that this integration had to be on the horizon, but after reading Acrylic App’s twitter feed, I came across the following:

Color me disappointed. Seriously? Passing a URL to Instapaper won’t work? Frankly, I don’t give a damn if it works with Times’s shelf. I just want to mark something to be read later. I’ll use the Instapaper app for reading everything marked as read later. I’ll use Times for reading now. Friggin’ make it work already.
Anyway, while I appreciate Acrylic Apps’s spunk and vision, if they’re not interest in interfacing with something as usable as Instapaper, I’ll pass. Reeder, my “firehose” app, interfaces with Instapaper and will continue to serve me well.
I think I just saved myself $8.00.
