So the much touted Apple press conference has taken place and the ultimate result is that Apple will be giving out cases when someone buys a new iPhone 4 until September 30th. Anyone who already bought Apple’s Bumper case will be given a full refund.
There was a bunch of info released in the press conference including that other smart phones also have the falling bars when holding those phones. Apple updated their website to add a webpage: Smartphone Antenna Performance
It was pretty clear that Steve Jobs was not to happy that the media was attacking Apple and not looking at other smart phones. I personally have to wonder what’s up with people that call themselves journalists. They write all these shock articles that draw eyes to their companies products (website, newspaper, broadcast, etc…), and currently, the iPhone 4 is the “now” story.
Now it wasn’t clear when we can get our Bumper refunds and where/how to get it. Steve said by the end of next week, there would be a webpage where purchasers of the iPhone 4 can register for their free case.
There was a Q&A session that occurred after Steve’s speech, but Apple didn’t put that in the streaming video of the press conference.
So, I really feel that Apple did the right thing here. Steve even apologized about the situation and told the press that they are doing everything in their power to make the best products they can.
