According to MacStories.net, the App Store only contains 19% paid apps and of those apps, the average selling price is $1.49. Now that sounds pretty bad, but according to the article, apple makes $180M a year gross. Now that sounds like a lot, but Apple makes $33.7B a year gross. So not so much.
Still, the App Store is not there to make Apple money. It’s there to attract potential smart phone users and portable music users to Apple and the iPhone and iPod. Now that the iPad is out, to also attract potential Netbook users.
