Well, Apple seems to be keeping with it’s trend of selling a million, that 1,000,000, iPads a month. They have hit their 3rd million just 80 days after it’s introduction:
Apple Sells Three Million iPads in 80 Days — CUPERTINO, Calif., June 22 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/
Apple® today announced that it sold its three millionth iPad™ yesterday, just 80 days after its introduction in the US.
We are talking an iPad sold every 2.3 seconds!
I’m guessing that Apple is considering the iPad a pretty big hit. It’s interesting that there are quite a few folks that are poo-poo’ing the iPad. Yet, apparently, there are quite a few folks out there that are digging the device.
I am a huge fan. I haven’t touched my MacBook since I got it and I rarely go downstairs to my Mac Pro except to write articles like this or download programs or sync my iDevices.
I use it for hours and hours each day and have yet to see the battery indicator go below 40%. Even though it says it’s not charging when it’s plugged into a computer. It really is charging, just very slowly. Charging from 40% does take some time, but since that is being done overnight, I never have seen it less than 100% in the morning.
Typing on the virtual keyboard is not a breeze, but it’s certainly better than on the iPhone. I could use the virtual keyboard to write small articles and definitely for chatting and Twitter.
If I had something bad to say about it, it would have to be the aluminum case. The damn thing is so slippery that a case for the iPad is a must. I got a rubber like case when I got the iPad, but I am looking at a MarWare case so that it can sit at an slight angle for typing and general use.
It’s not heavy, but holding it for long periods is not all that easy. That said, holding a decent sized book isn’t all that easy either.
Reading books on the iPad isn’t all that bad. I suspect that if I had a Kindle or Nook to compare with, I might have to say that an e-ink device would be better on the readers eyes. However, reading at night or in a dark place is much harder with a Kindle/Nook. On the other hand, reading in sunlight with an iPad is probably difficult too.
For folks that travel a lot, I would have to say that an iPad is pretty much a no-brainer. Being able to watch several movies on a flight or play games for hours on end is a much better experience than maybe one movie with a notebook computer or the same with an iPhone/iPod touch. Plus the screen on the iPad is pretty darn close to that of a notebook and really close to that of a netbook.
Way to go Apple! Keep up the great work!
